Economy and Business:
During the 1940's, businesses and the economy rose and the depression slipped away from America. American business was booming during the 1940s. "During the decade the economy rebounded from depression; big business recovered its tarnished public reputation; wages and earnings reached new heights; and powerful new sectors of the economy developed, especially in the production of consumer goods and military hardware" (America 1940-1949: Business and the Economy). The 1940s were filled with preparation for war, dealing with war, winning the war, and ended with the Cold War. Although there were many wars and battles, the war was beneficial for America's economy and the people living in America.
During the begining of the 1940s, the national debt was 43 billion dollars, and 8 million people were out of work. In 1945, due to the war the national debt rose to a staggering 260 billion dollars. Taxes were raised in order to help these funds and throughout the decade, the economy was able to recover from the increase in industry's production of weapons and supplies for the war.
